Products I am Loving!

I have been switching to Green Beauty products more and more.  Some people may balk at the price, but I figure for what I am getting and subjecting my skin to, it is well worth it!  The pigments from the makeup are on point and the products smell so good and make my skin and hair feel amazing!

I am going to share my recent switches and what I was using before.

To start……Foundation!

I was using Este Lauder Double Wear foundation.  I have skin pigmentation and need a full coverage foundation.  I talked to April (owner of Be Pure Beauty) about my need to full coverage and she turned in onto Nu Evolution.  I get the same full coverage without all the nasty ingredients my skin doesn’t need.

Men’s Gift Set

I am starting my gift set series with Men.  These are products tried and loved by my own man.
Shh, don’t tell but several men in my family will be receiving these products for Christmas.

I met April #GirlBoss owner of Be Pure Beauty about 2 years ago at a blog event.  I had a few friends who are all about Green Beauty and would take them to her store.  I thought, Oh I’m good with my makeup.  I kept receiving free products to try from the big name brands. and wanted full coverage due to some skin irregularities.  I was certain I wouldn’t get what I needed from green beauty.  I mean my friends who wore it didn’t really wear makeup or didn’t need the coverage I did.

On one trip, to actually talk about Accounting, I asked April about Schmidt’s natural deodorant.  I suffered from a terrible sweat problem, no matter what I did I would sweat like a linebacker. [See my review of  natural deodorant here.]  After switching and detoxing I slowly got more intrigued with green beauty.  April moved locations and is now closer to me, and near the stores I shop in (Trader Joe’s).  Of course being me, my next purchase was a Lavender Linen spray.  Then I picked up the Beard Tonic for my husband.  If I am going green so is he!

I have since switched from MAC to 100% Pure and Vapour lip stick.  My latest is from Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation to Nu Evolution Foundation.  We also use soap, lip balm, and face wash from Be Pure Beauty.  I still have to switch my blush, bronzer, and eye makeup.  Being money conscious I need to use the makeup I have, then I will switch to green.  I hate wasting!

Which brings me to my Gift Guide Series!  I wanted to share some items you can give as gifts to the people in your lives.  Starting the series with “Men’s Gift Set”.  Next will be “Ladies Gift Set”, followed by “For Everyone Gift Set”.  All the products I am sharing are Green Products that will be good for anyone in your life.  Items are Gluten Free.  I will also tell you the price point before tax, plus these gift sets will qualify for Free shipping!  You can order online or go to the store.

Go To Falsies

Makeup has always been tricky for me because it isn’t something the women in my family wear.  My Grandmother use to say, “I have to put my face on” and she would apply lipstick.  Lipstick has always been a go to for my family, but oddly enough it is not something I typically like to wear.  I find it fades or goes away completely after just a short time of wearing it.  I do apply it before going to see people, but on my day to day I typically won’t wear it or forget to reapply so it only lasts a few hours.

Be Pure Beauty

Last week I attended a blogger event at Be Pure Beauty in Durham.
What an event!  April, the owner, was so sweet and amazing.  She put together a scavenger hunt for us where we learned about the nasty toxins that are in most makeup.  Then she took us through a “Night” eye makeup tutorial.  I am so excited to share with you some of her professional tips!

Adjusting from Long to Short Hair

I recently got my hair cut.  For over 12 years I have had long hair, like over half way down my back.  So to go from that to hair barley past my shoulders has been an adjustment.  I thought I would share what I have learned from the transition.

Goodbye Long pretty hair

Hello Short fun hair
Some of the things I have found with short hair:
1.  I use less Shampoo and blow drying goes quickly
2.  My curls last longer but I had to switch to a smaller barrel wand
3. It has more volume, so teasing is a cinch
4. Most of my hair pins won’t hold the short layers.  Had to pick up tiny bobby pins
5. Definitely more variety with styles.
6. Best part is I can still do a high bun, however the messy bun is no more.
Have you changed your hair lately?

Hump Day – Fun Day

Purse / Coin Purse / Flats / Puff
I love blogging, but during tax season it’s hard to put in the time.  Yes, blogging takes time.  You don’t just snap pictures and throw them up.  Even though when I am rushed I am guilty of doing.  I have to link my outfit items.  Write something meaningful for you to read.  I mean you don’t come here just to see what I am wearing.  Some of my readers are family members, other’s friends, and the rest of you are my fashion soul sisters.  I started this blog as an outlet for my fun fashion sense and budget shopping tip platform.  It has grown as I have over the years.  I have refined my style and changed what I like.  The older I get the more serious I want people to take me and I feel that starts with how I look.  I totally envy those women who get this figured out in their 20’s.  Hey better late than never though.  So on to fun things!  I have a very simple life (Work, School, Home, and back again), however there are times I do things fun and I enjoy sharing them with you.
Recent events:
Recently I have been getting out more.  Like this past weekend I took my mom shopping for new clothing.  Due to her Parkinson’s it’s hard for her to get undressed without help.  So I offered to take her.  I knew I would have more patience than her sweet husband, and we could spend time together.  Not to mention I am the first to say something doesn’t look good.  Gotta keep my momma looking good!  After shopping at Chico’s we hit up Trader Joe’s.  I love their flower options and the prices are Amazing!   I mean $5.99 for a big bouquet.  We ended the day grilling out with our men and playing Cards Against Humanity.  Saturday was also my Nephew’s 7th Birthday!  So it was great we were all together when my sister FaceTime’d me so I could see and chat with him.
These are my favorite and go to items lately.  First let’s address my Jewelry – Kendra Scott.  I have seriously fallen in love with her jewelry and I have gotten it all on mark down (which helps!).  Because the items I purchase are on mark down it’s hard to find exact items online but I have tried.
Makeup:  My skin has changed and is now dry.  It use to be oily (sometimes very oily).  So naturally I needed to change my makeup and skin routine.  I searched and searched through the internet and blogs on suggestions for foundations and other products for dry skin.  I am not one who will spend money on a product I’m not sure will work.  It’s like wasting money to me because I am embarrassed to return an item after I used it.  Anyhow,  lately I have been loving Sephora (not to mention getting points by going through Ebates).  I ordered the Este Lauder (I’m a Creamy Tan) full coverage foundation and snagged their deal of the week a Clinic foundation stick.  With the Este Lauder I use a makeup sponge that’s damp to apply and then go behind with the Clinic stick to blend and lighten.  I opted for the tan Este Lauder because I knew Spring was coming and I tan so easily.
My go to Highlighter, Blush, and Under Eye Concealer are all Becca.  A little goes a long way.  It’s defiantly worth the price!  My SIL actually suggested I try Becca when she and my Brother gave me a Sephora gift card for my birthday last year!  So glad I listened to her.  The makeup lasts all day and looks amazing!
